About Mike E. Perez

I was born Michael Ernest Perez on May 7, 1980 in the deep south Texas town of Harlingen. And as far back as I can remember, I’ve been known by family and friends as Mikey. Sure, it’s a common nickname for anyone named Michael, but it continued on through high school and college, even in the workplace to this very day.

It’s a persistent nickname, but I don’t mind it a bit. Considering how common the name Michael is, I’m usually not the only one in the room. So I actually prefer to be called Mikey to distinguish myself from others.

“So if you prefer Mikey, why do you call yourself Mike on this website?”

As I noted previously, my middle name is Ernest, meaning my middle initial is “E.” Simple non-numerical arithmetic dictates: Mike + E = Mikey. But I also really like my middle name, it’s my dad’s name after all, and I like to reference it in my professional work. Of course, “Mikey” doesn’t sound a bit professional, and “Mikey E. Perez” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.

So, professionally speaking, you may know me as Mike E. Perez, but in daily life, I’m just Mikey Perez.

I decided to start this blog in order to update the world on my professional status as a designer and illustrator. As I prepare for graduation, I’d like to know how my work can be improved. I appreciate any feedback. I’ll try to post as often as I can, and will gladly take any design advice into consideration. I hope to hear from you soon!
